Pura Link Internship

Duration
Summer 2022/2023 (3 months)
Experience
Figma, Illustrator, Photoshop, Adobe XD, UX research & feedback, presentations to client.
Brief
Pura Link is a robotics inspection company for water pipes. This task required researching potential user needs and designing a mobile app and website platform to allow water utility companies and pipe inspection providers to monitor and analyse their pipe inspections. I also worked on a logo re-design.
Note: Permission was given for these snapshots, full demonstration content is under NDA.
3
Research
As Pura Link is still pre-revenue, there were no direct users to interview. As the designer, I worked from the perspective of the potential clients, namely water utility companies and pipe inspection providers, and assessed their needs and goals. My research included multiple storyboards and journey maps. In this project, the CEO and CTO acted as the company’s users.
User Feedback
As I was only able to meet with the CEO and CTO once a week, I used the time effectively by preparing extensively for each meeting and presentation. In these meetings, I received feedback to assist me to refine my design ideas.
Optimisations
App: This was the first app I had created independently. I began by journey mapping the user's experience to pinpoint their requirements for the information to be provided by the app. Through iterative design, I maximised the app’s capabilities. I designed the mobile app using Figma and the website platform using Adobe XD, and ensured both offered the same functionality. I used Figma and Adobe XD to improve my skills in both.
Logo: I researched technology company branding to develop an understanding of the space and produced mockups for a new logo, moving from low to high fidelity.

Eco Citizen App
Brief
The aim of this bue-sky project was to make the sustainability of supermarket items visible to the consumer through a rating system to encourage sustainable purchasing.
Working in a team of four student designers, we created an app that combined analogue and digital features such as technological changes to the shopping experience and digital sustainability ratings.
Duration
Semester 2 2022 (14 weeks)
Experience
Figma, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, UX feedback, presenting, collaboration.
Demonstration
5
Research and User Feedback
Over a seven week period, we conducted weekly in-class user testing of differing groups of two (28 people in total), to help us refine and streamline key features by reducing text, refining icons and highlighting key actions.

Final
Optimisations
We iteratively analysed the processes and flows using Figma to create an efficient user experience. Effective communication and clear delegation of tasks supported our collaboration.

Chatime Redesign

Existing App
My Redesign
Duration
May 2023 (2 weeks)
Experience
Figma, Illustrator, Photoshop
Demonstration
Brief
As a user of the Chatime mobile app, I experienced design choices and features that were not intuitive. As a result, I redesigned the app as a personal project to create a better User Experience.
8
Research
I conducted a PMI of each screen and recorded this using annotations.
My main findings were:
User Feedback
Using my annotations, I drew alternative wire frames and created these in Figma. User testing helped me to refine my design iterations throughout the design process.

Ecommerce Website
Duration
June 2023 3 days
Experience
Adobe XD, Photoshop, Canva, UX Feedback, SEO Research
Demonstration
Brief
Create a single page, shop front website for my business Aurelia Streetwear to generate subscribers and sales.
11
Research
I researched other online clothing retailers to ensure a consistent theming and a modern design approach.
I taught myself how to use AdobeXD and specific features such as the carousel photo display, horizontal scrolling and button illumination.

Iterations
My Redesign
User Feedback
From feedback from potential users, I added functionality indicators such as arrows for horizontal scrolling and hover states for various elements.
Overall user feedback was an important stage of the design process and allowed me to refine my work.

Optimisations
Style was the greatest challenge: I wanted a modern, clean and on-brand look. I invested significant time in experimenting with typography, shape and colour to create the look I wanted.

Product Design Major Project
Fast Fashion into Furniture
Duration
Semester 2 2023 (14 weeks)
Experience
Research, experimentation, prototyping, hand fabrication
Brief
In this research led design project, I explored the opportunity to upcycle the resources represented by discarded denim jeans and denim textile waste into the production of furniture.
The chair is made from denim, structured using a bio resin consisting of gelatin, vinegar and glycerin. All components can be recycled at end of life.
13
Material Prototypes
I tested a number of adhesives and further tested fusible tape and bio resin as both produced strong structures. I chose bio resin for this project as it was biodegradable and would allow me to create a fully biodegradable product. Through fabric testing, I discovered denim was the strongest and easiest to work with. I made sure my final product had denim that was 100% cotton so it could be biodegradable.
Structural Prototypes
I tested the denim and bio resin in different structures. I decided on cylinders in my final design as they support weight across their whole length.
